We've Added Aircon Steam Cleaning and a Trade-In Program in Penang
PG1 Aircond now offers chemical-free steam cleaning for allergy-sensitive homes and an aircon trade-in program — cash credit toward a new energy-efficient inverter.
Two new services join the PG1 Aircond menu this quarter: chemical-free steam cleaning and an aircon trade-in program. Both sit alongside our core aircon service in Penang, and here’s what they are, who they’re for, and how to book.
Why we added steam cleaning
A growing number of our customers have asked for a chemical-free aircon deep clean — usually because someone in the household has chemical sensitivities, severe asthma, or just prefers fewer chemicals around young children.
The traditional chemical wash is safe and effective: the coil cleaner is rinsed out completely, and there’s no residue left behind. But “safe” and “comfortable for everyone” aren’t the same thing. For households where the chemical wash isn’t the right fit, we now offer high-temperature steam cleaning as a real alternative.
How steam cleaning works
The process is similar to a chemical wash in terms of dismantling and access, but the cleaning method is different:
- Dismantle the indoor unit — same as a chemical wash.
- High-temperature pressurised steam applied to the evaporator coil, blower wheel, and water tray.
- Steam kills mould and bacteria through heat, not chemicals.
- Residue is rinsed with the steam condensate — no chemical residue at all.
- Drainage flush and reassembly — as per chemical wash.
The steam reaches 110–130°C — well above the kill threshold for mould spores and bacteria. The effect on cooling and odour is comparable to a chemical wash.
Who it’s for
Steam cleaning is the right call when:
- Anyone in the household has chemical sensitivities or chemical allergies.
- Severe asthma that’s been triggered by aircon servicing residue in the past.
- Young children or infants in the home and you prefer to avoid chemicals.
- Pets that lick or chew on the aircon area.
For a typical Penang home with no sensitivities, the aircon chemical wash is still our default recommendation — it’s slightly more effective on heavily fouled units. But if any of the above apply, steam cleaning is the better choice.
Pricing
Steam cleaning is RM200–250 per unit — slightly above the chemical wash range because the equipment and time are different. Same 100% satisfaction guarantee applies.
WhatsApp us if you want to discuss whether steam cleaning is the right fit for your situation.
The trade-in program
The second new service is an aircon trade-in program. We’ll accept your old aircon — working or not — for cash credit toward a new install.
Why we added it
Two reasons:
-
Many of our service customers ask about replacing 8–10+ year-old units. The math often favours replacement (a new inverter cuts the TNB bill enough to pay for itself), but the friction is high — getting rid of the old unit is a hassle for the customer.
-
Old aircons have residual value. Working compressors, salvageable copper, recyclable casings. We can put that value back into your pocket.
What we accept
- Any wall-mounted split unit — Daikin, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Midea, LG, Samsung, Hisense, etc.
- Any HP rating from 0.5 to 3.0.
- Working or non-working — we accept failed units too.
- Indoor and outdoor unit together — both need to be turned in.
We don’t take ceiling cassettes or ducted systems in trade — too complex to remove and resell.
Trade-in values
Rough guide:
| Unit condition | Trade-in value |
|---|---|
| Working, well-maintained, premium brand | RM150–250 |
| Working, basic brand or older | RM80–150 |
| Non-working but recent | RM80–120 |
| Non-working, older | RM50–80 |
Premium brands (Daikin, Panasonic, Mitsubishi) carry higher values because their parts and compressors have resale demand.
How it works
- Get a quote for your new install — site visit and write-up, no charge.
- We assess your old unit during the site visit and add the trade-in value to the quote.
- On install day, we install the new unit and take the old one away.
- Trade-in credit is deducted from your final bill.
It’s that simple. No separate trips to dispose of the old unit, no listing it for sale yourself.
Best use cases
The trade-in works particularly well when:
- Replacing an 8+ year non-inverter with a modern inverter — the TNB savings recover the cost premium, and the trade-in covers part of the upfront cost.
- Upgrading from a builder-grade unit to a premium brand.
- Multi-unit replacements — household with 3+ aging units. Trade-in values stack.
For example: a customer in Bayan Lepas with three 9-year-old Panasonic non-inverter units traded in for three new Daikin inverters last month. Trade-in totalled RM450, which covered nearly the entire install cost of the new units. Their TNB bill is projected to drop RM120/month going forward.
How to book either service
WhatsApp us with what you need:
- For steam cleaning: tell us why you want chemical-free (sensitivity, child in home, etc.) and how many units. We’ll quote and schedule.
- For trade-in: photo of the old unit(s), brand and rough age, and the room sizes you want new units for. We’ll come do a site survey and quote the install with trade-in included.
Both services are available across Penang island and the mainland from this week. We’re testing demand over the next few months — if uptake is strong, they’ll become permanent menu items.
Questions? WhatsApp our team or call our hotline. Either way, we’ll talk you through the options honestly and recommend the right service for your situation.
