Why BTU matters in Penang

Penang averages 32°C with high humidity. Undersizing your aircon means it runs constantly and never reaches your set temperature — wasting electricity and wearing out the compressor faster. Oversizing causes short-cycling, poor dehumidification, and higher upfront cost.

Common questions about aircon sizing

How do I measure my room correctly?

Measure the longest wall (length) and the perpendicular wall (width) of the room in metres. For L-shaped rooms, calculate each section separately and add the results, then choose one unit or multiple units accordingly.

Does ceiling height really affect BTU?

Yes. A higher ceiling means more cubic volume to cool. We add 10% capacity for ceilings above 2.5m. For very high ceilings (3.5m+) in commercial spaces, consider a ceiling cassette unit instead.

Why is there a tropical climate adjustment?

Standard BTU tables are based on temperate climates (Europe, North America). In Penang's heat and humidity, you need about 25% more cooling capacity to achieve the same comfort level — this adjustment is built into our calculator.

Should I get one big unit or two smaller ones?

For connected rooms (living-dining), two smaller units give more zoned control. For a single room above 30 m², a ceiling cassette or two wall-mounted units often performs better than one oversized unit.

Want us to size and install the right unit?

Our technicians assess the room in person and recommend the right HP, brand, and type — not just the cheapest option.
